Three Wide Receivers the Broncos Should Target in 2026 NFL Free Agency

The Denver Broncos already have a dependable WR1 in Courtland Sutton, but the offense could still benefit from adding another dynamic receiving threat. Adding a complementary WR2 would diversify the Broncos’ passing attack and prevent defenses from focusing too heavily on Sutton.

Troy Franklin showed promise in 2025, finishing the season with 709 receiving yards and six touchdowns. While that production was encouraging, Denver’s offense would likely be far more dangerous if Franklin were operating as the third option rather than being relied upon so heavily as a primary option in the passing game. Ideally, his blazing speed and big-play ability would complement two more established receiving threats ahead of him on the depth chart.

Depth was also an issue beyond Sutton and Franklin. Aside from those two, no other Broncos pass-catcher surpassed 500 receiving yards during the 2025 season. Adding another reliable playmaker would give Denver’s offense greater balance and make it more difficult for opposing defenses to key in on one particular wideout.

With that in mind, here are three wide receivers the Broncos should consider pursuing in free agency to bolster their passing game:

3. Romeo Doubs

Romeo Doubs quietly developed into a reliable weapon for the Green Bay Packers in 2025, registering career highs in receiving yards (724) and yards per reception (13.2). In many ways, he fits the mold of a “jack-of-all-trades” wide receiver – capable of contributing in a variety of ways without necessarily dominating any single area.

At 6-foot-2 and 204 pounds with solid body control, Doubs is particularly effective in the red zone and can win on short, intermediate, and deep routes. While he has occasionally struggled with inconsistency, he has also shown the ability to deliver in big moments.

One such example came in the 2025 Wild Card Round against the Chicago Bears, when Doubs recorded eight receptions for 124 yards and a touchdown. Earlier in the 2025 campaign, he caught six passes for 58 yards and three touchdowns against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 4.

Doubs may not project as a true No. 1 wideout, but he has proven to be a dependable No. 2 option. He’s the type of complementary target who could fit nicely alongside Sutton in Denver’s offense.

2. Stefon Diggs

Even as he enters the later stages of his career, four-time Pro Bowler Stefon Diggs remains one of the most productive wide receivers in the NFL. He has recorded at least 1,000 receiving yards in seven of the past eight seasons. In 2025 with the New England Patriots, he hauled in 85 passes for 1,013 yards and four touchdowns.

Diggs quickly established himself as the Patriots’ top receiving option and played a pivotal role in the development of quarterback Drake Maye, who emerged as an MVP candidate during the season. Diggs topped 100 receiving yards in five games, including a standout Week 5 performance against the Buffalo Bills in which he caught 10 passes for 146 yards in a 23-20 victory. In a Week 16 clash with the Baltimore Ravens, Diggs tallied nine catches for 138 yards, helping New England notch a pivotal 28-24 win.

It’s also worth noting that Diggs nearly joined forces with the Broncos in 2025 before signing with the Patriots. He spoke fondly of Sean Payton and Bo Nix in February prior to Super Bowl LX before concluding that Denver had “a good situation” and “a great organization.” Diggs also has rapport with Davis Webb, whom the Broncos promoted to offensive coordinator in 2026, from their time together with the Bills.

If Denver is looking to add an experienced playmaker alongside Sutton, Diggs could provide both leadership and reliable production. And despite suffering a season-ending torn ACL during the 2024 campaign with the Houston Texans, Diggs has a remarkable track record of durability – a critical attribute for a skill position player over the age of 30.

1. Alec Pierce

Alec Pierce might be the most intriguing wide receiver option in free agency. He developed into one of the NFL’s premier deep threats with the Indianapolis Colts, leading the league in yards per reception in each of the past two seasons (22.3 in 2024 and 21.3 in 2025).

In 2025, Pierce joined an exclusive group by surpassing 1,000 receiving yards while averaging more than 20 yards per catch – a feat achieved by only four players over the past 15 seasons. His combination of size, strength, and straight-line speed makes him a difficult matchup for opposing defenses.

Pierce’s ability to generate explosive plays has been on full display throughout his career. In Week 18 of the 2025 campaign against the Texans, he caught four passes for 132 yards and two touchdowns. Earlier in the year, he hauled in six receptions for 115 yards against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 9.

Perhaps the most appealing aspect of Pierce’s game is that he doesn’t require a high volume of targets to make an impact. A handful of touches can quickly turn into a game-changing play – exactly the kind of vertical threat that could open up space for Sutton and the Broncos’ offense.

The Bottom Line

The Broncos already have a reliable top target in Sutton, and the wide receiver position is far from a glaring weakness for the offense. Still, adding another proven playmaker could elevate the unit from solid to dangerous. A complementary wideout capable of making plays in key situations would take pressure off Sutton and create more opportunities across the field.

Whether it’s a balanced contributor like Doubs, an established veteran like Diggs, or a big-play specialist like Pierce, each option would bring something valuable to Denver’s offense. The right addition could provide the Broncos with more versatility and explosiveness in the passing game. If Denver hopes to take another step forward in 2026, bolstering the receiving corps may be one of the clearest ways to help the offense reach new heights.
